Wind Farming for Land Owners
Proven Energy Ltd, the Scottish company who have installed over 700 wind turbine systems have launched their "Windcrofting" initiative. They are asking farmers to register their interest in having a mini wind farm installed on their farm.
Mini wind farms have the advantage that:
The small wind turbines can be installed in hedges so there is no loss of farming land
Noise from the small wind turbines is not as issue as with large turbines
No new power lines are required for the mini wind turbines
There is no need for specialist machinery to install the mini wind turbines
The turbines have an expected life span of 25 years.
The Proven small-scale wind turbine systems range from the height of a telegraph pole (the WT600 which can provide enough electricity to power lighting circuits in a standard 3 - bed house in the UK) to the height of a mature tree (the WT 15000 which can power seven standard 3 - bed houses in the UK).
Proven Energy hope to recruit 3,000 farmers to install small-scale Proven Energy wind turbines. The total energy produced by these 3,000 farms will provide the same power generation as a nuclear power station.
